Raksha Bandhan, or Rakhi, one of the biggest festivals in India, will be celebrated on Monday, August 03, 2020, across the country. It's an occasion marking brotherly love between siblings.

On the day of Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie 'Rakhi', a colourful band signifying love between siblings, on the wrist of their brother. The sisters pray for the health, happiness and prosperity of their brother while the brother promises to protect her from any harm and gives sweets, clothes, cash and other gifts.

The festival of Raksha Bandha in India is celebrated with great fun and excitement. Siblings wait for this festival the entire year.

This year, send these Happy Raksha Bandhan 2020 Best SMS, Images, Facebook and WhatsApp messages to your siblings to share your love this Raksha Bandhan:

When you tie Rakhi on my wrist and when every time I see it, this reminds me of all the lovely memories we had together. Happy Raksha Bandhan dear sister!

Our bond of love is forever. No one can listen and understand me like you do dear sister. Thanks for being the most amazing friend and a dear sister. Thanks for caring about me like a mother and love me the most. I am very grateful to have you in my life.

Raksha Bandhan History facts

There are stories in Indian myths and history that show the power of significance the rakhi tradition holds.
One is of Rani Karnavati of Chittor. She was the widowed queen and she knew she couldn't defend her kingdom from Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat. She sent a rakhi to the Mughal Emperor Humayun, who was so touched by the gesture that he sent his troops to her aid immediately.

There is even a tale that when Alexander of Macedonia invaded India, he was shaken by the fury of the King Puru. Alexander's wife, approached King Puru for she had heard of the Raksha Bandhan and he accepted her as a sister. This gesture spared Alexander.

The most iconic story is of course that of Draupadi and Krishna from the Mahabharata. On time, after Krishna had to kill King Shishupal, his finger was bleeding. On seeing that, Draupadi tore a strip of her own sari to bandage the wound. Krishna was touched by her worry and her care and promised to protect her an care for her the same way. They both felt a strong sibling affection towards each other. When Dushasana attempted to disrobe her publicly she immediately prayed to Krishna for help and protection. Using his divine powers Krishna prevented Dushasana from being able to disrobe her, despite not being there.
